Difficult Tracks

Nature Observations offer two walking tracks for experienced and physically fit clients. These walks have restricted departures

Lake Marian is an alpine cirque reached via an uneven track. Gertrude Saddle is a rugged hike high into the mountains above the Homer Tunnel.

Sturdy hiking boots are recommended and can be hired in Te Anau the day before your departure - additional fee.

There are some sections of both walks where scrambling or climbing may be required - for the walk to Gertrude Saddle you must be comfortable with heights.
